Overview

Parameters are dynamic values you can change and see how it impacts other fields. Parameters are global across worksheets belonging to the same dataset, and you can use a parameter multiple times in any worksheet or calculations. They are automatically updated if a value of the parameter is changed.

Create parameters

  1. In the Data pane, right-click in the Parameters pane and then click Create Parameter Field.
  2. In the Create Parameter dialog box, you can edit the system-defined values. You can change the parameter name and current value and choose a different data type from the drop-down.
  3. When finished, click Save.

Manage parameters

You can edit, duplicate, rename, and delete existing parameters.

  • Edit - If you have used a parameter in the chart view, then your edit actions can affect your chart.
  • Rename - When you rename a parameter from the Data Pane, the changes are immediately reflected everywhere.
  • Delete – You cannot delete parameters used in calculations. To delete such parameters, remove them from calculations.

Edit parameters

  1. In the Data Pane, right-click the parameter, and then click Edit.
  2. In the Edit Parameter dialog box, make the modifications as necessary.

Rename parameters

Use this option only when you want to rename a parameter and do not require to make any other field changes. To make multiple changes to a parameter, you can refer to Edit parameters procedure.

  1. In the Data Pane, right-click the parameter, and then click Rename.

To delete a parameter from the Data Pane, right-click the parameter and then click Delete. Parameters used in calculations cannot be deleted.

Use parameters in calculations

You can use a parameter in a single calculation or multiple calculations. When you edit the parameter, all calculations using the same parameter are also updated. To use a parameter in a calculation, drag the parameter from the Data Pane and drop it in the calculation field editor.
